The Centre and the Circumference (2011)
16mm film with optical sound
6 minutes 40 seconds
The Centre and the Circumference explores the relationship between memory and cinema. Referencing Maya Deren’s , At Land (1944), the film follows an archetypal female character as she moves through geographical and temporal sites, linked only by camera movement and editing. This elliptical film is constructed from fragments of the artist's own (sometimes misremembered) cinematic and literary memory - moments that are mediated once more through the performance of the actress that re-presents these gestures back to us on screen.
